Tiger Park Phuket is one of the most searched attractions on the island and one of the most argued about. Tiger Park sells three separate things: individual enclosure tickets, multi-enclosure Play packages, and two outdoor experiences that involve no enclosure at all. So What Does a Visit Actually Come To?

The arithmetic is two lines: tickets per person, plus one vehicle charge for the car.

Because the vehicle is one price for up to ten people rather than a per-seat fare, the transport cost per head falls sharply the larger your group is. Two people carry ฿1,000 each; eight people carry ฿250 each. Children under 2 are free in the cub enclosures and do not add to the ticket line at all.

The 15-Year and 160 cm Rules — Read This Before Choosing a Tier

This is the section that saves the day, and it is the one almost nobody reads before booking.

Tiger Park checks both age and height at the counter, and it applies the rules briskly. The part that catches people out is that the height rule is not a children's rule — it applies to adults exactly as it does to children.

Anyone under 15 years old, or under 160 cm tall at any age, may only enter the Smallest and Newborn cub enclosures.

A 34-year-old traveller who is 155 cm tall is limited to the cubs precisely as a nine-year-old is. The park measures at the desk rather than taking your word for it, and it does not negotiate.

The Full Eligibility Matrix

The One Thing the Park Contradicts Itself On

We would rather publish this than quietly pick a side.

The park issues two documents. Its printed rules and conditions sheet lists the White Tiger and the Cheetah at 16 years and over, 160 cm. Its price board lists both at 18 years and over, 160 cm. Every other tier — Smallest, Small, Medium, Big, Giant, Newborn — agrees perfectly across the two. It is only these two enclosures where the paperwork diverges.

In practice it only matters in one situation: somebody in your group is 16 or 17 and specifically wants the cheetah or the white tiger. Anyone 18 or over and 160 cm or taller qualifies under either reading and needs no confirmation.

If that situation is yours, tell us at enquiry and we will get the park to confirm the current rule in writing before you pay anything. We would rather lose the sale than sell a ticket that gets refused at the counter.

Three Situations, Three Right Answers

Situation 1 — A family with children under 15.

Your children can only do the Smallest cub. That is settled. The decision you actually have to make is whether you want a photograph with the whole family in one frame.

If the parents book the Big tiger at ฿920 and the child books Smallest at ฿920, you are in two different enclosures at two different times. There is no shared picture. Everyone has to book the same tier to be in the same enclosure at the same moment — and since children are limited to the cubs, that tier has to be Smallest.

That is not a compromise, incidentally. A three-to-five-month cub is awake, curious and moving; a four-year-old adult tiger at midday mostly is not. The cub enclosure is the better family experience regardless of the rules.

Situation 2 — Someone in the group is under 160 cm.

Measure before you book, not after. If anyone is close to the line, send us the actual number in centimetres and we will confirm in writing what they qualify for before you pay.

If somebody falls short, the honest best-value plan is the entire group on the Smallest cub together, plus the Sky Walk and the Forest Safari, which have no height rule at all. Everybody enters together, nobody is measured and turned away in front of the queue, and the total is lower than a split booking would have been anyway.

Situation 3 — Adults only, everyone over 18 and over 160 cm.

Every tier is open to you. Play 4 at ฿3,000 against ฿3,320 at the gate is the best-value first visit: Big, Medium, Small and Smallest in sequence, roughly two hours inside, and the contrast between the first cage and the last is the entire point of the package.

If you would rather have rare than more, Play 2B at ฿2,000 pairs the cheetah with the white tiger or the giant. Two enclosures most tiger venues in Thailand cannot offer at all, and a far more distinctive photograph than a fourth orange tiger.

The Canopy Sky Walk and Forest Safari — The Part Nobody Books

Most people arrive at Tiger Park knowing only about the enclosures and leave having walked straight past the two experiences that carry no restrictions at all.

The Canopy Forest Safari is a 15–20 minute ride in an open-sided electric car through the park's landscaped outdoor territory, where the tigers have considerably more room than the interaction enclosures. You see animals resting under trees, cooling themselves in the water features, and occasionally crossing in front of the vehicle. You stay in the car throughout, which neither disturbs nor stresses them. ฿680 through us against ฿750 at the gate.

The Canopy Sky Walk is a raised wooden walkway built above that same ground. You look down onto the outdoor enclosures with Nakkerd Hill rising behind them, and it is also the best photograph available on the site that does not consist of a tiger's face filling the frame. ฿470 through us against ฿520 at the gate.

Neither has an age rule. Neither has a height rule.

That makes them the honest answer for three groups of people the enclosure system leaves out: the family whose nine-year-old cannot legally enter a Big tiger cage, the grandparent with no interest in sitting on the floor beside a big cat, and the 155 cm adult who would otherwise be restricted to the cubs. Together they come to ฿1,150 and constitute a complete visit without setting foot inside an enclosure.

Two practical notes worth having in advance:

1. Do them before your enclosure, not after. They orient you to the site and settle nervous children before the moment that matters.
2. Both are non-refundable the moment the ticket is issued — that is the park's own printed condition, not ours. Choose them deliberately rather than adding them on impulse at the counter.

Are the Tigers Drugged? The Straight Answer

This question appears under every tiger venue in Thailand and it deserves a direct response rather than a marketing sentence.

The biology first. Tigers sleep between 16 and 20 hours per day. They are nocturnal hunters that evolved to conserve energy through daylight heat — the same strategy every large cat that hunts at night uses. A tiger lying completely flat at noon in 33°C Chalong is doing precisely what a tiger does in the wild at noon. This is not sedation; it is what tigers do when it is hot and they are not hunting. Wildlife researchers have documented the pattern in Bengal tigers for a century.

That single fact accounts for the large majority of the "they looked drugged" reviews online. Visitors who have never spent time around big cats read entirely normal thermoregulatory behaviour as something sinister.

What you actually see. The cub enclosures at three to twelve months show visibly active, curious, responsive animals — they approach visitors, react to handlers, and behave in ways that are unmistakably not sedated, particularly in the morning. The Big, Giant and White Tiger enclosures show animals that rest far more, exactly as any large cat does after eating in the heat.

Where we stop defending it. That is an honest explanation, not a complete answer, and we are not going to dress this up as conservation. Tiger Park is a commercial wildlife attraction, not a sanctuary and not a breeding-for-release programme. Visit between 9:00 and 11:00 AM, choose the cub tiers if seeing active animals matters to you, and form your own judgement standing there.

Tiger Park or Tiger Kingdom? They Are Not the Same Place

This trips up visitors every single week, and it is worth thirty seconds of your attention because the two venues are on opposite sides of the island.

Every price in this guide is for Tiger Park in Chalong. If a booking confirmation from anywhere shows a Kathu address, it is the other venue and nothing on this page applies to it.

The practical reason to choose Chalong is what sits three kilometres further up the road.

The Big Buddha, 3 km Up the Same Hill — And Why 2026 Matters

Tiger Park is on Soi Yot Sane 1, which is the road that climbs Nakkerd Hill. Keep going and you reach the Ming Mongkol Buddha — 45 metres of white Burmese marble on the ridge, visible from half the island.

The timing matters this year. The Big Buddha was closed from 23 August 2024, after a landslide on the hill killed 13 people. It reopened briefly for three days on 1 January 2026, closed again, and then reopened properly on 3 March 2026. A great many listings and guidebooks still carry the closure notice, and plenty of visitors have written Phuket's single most famous landmark off their itinerary on the strength of outdated information.

It is open. Entry is free — donations are optional. Hours are 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily, with last entry at 5:30 PM. The road up the hill is paved and straightforward, though the descent has steep sections and tight curves. There is free parking at the top and restrooms near the parking area. The climb from the terrace to the Buddha's base is 94 steps, and the lower terrace gives you the view over Chalong Bay, Kata and Rawai without them. Dress code: shoulders and knees covered. No sleeveless tops, no shorts above the knee. The temple lends sarongs free at the entrance if you arrive unprepared, but bringing something of your own is simpler.

Because your driver waits through the tiger visit anyway, the Big Buddha is a 45-minute to one-hour detour with no extra transport charge — not a second booking on a second day. The natural shape of the morning:

• 9:00–11:00 AM — Tiger Park enclosures, in the cool part of the day
• 11:00 AM–12:00 PM — Big Buddha and the terrace viewpoint
• 12:30 PM — back at your hotel with the afternoon intact

What the Visit Actually Feels Like

Arrival. The park opens at 9:00 AM. Booked through us, your tickets are collected beforehand, so you go straight to the check-in point rather than the ticket window — which is where the queue and the ticket-exchange arguments happen.

The enclosure. When your slot is called, a trained handler takes your group through the gate. Groups are small. The handler positions you, shows you exactly where to place your hands and where not to, and stays within arm's reach the entire time. Your own phone and camera are permitted throughout — there is no rule forcing you to buy the park's photographs.

Ten minutes. That is the allocation and it is enforced consistently. It is a short, structured, supervised encounter rather than free time among the animals, and the reviews describing it as brief are accurate — they simply expected something the park has never offered. If ten minutes seems thin for the trip up the hill, the fix is booking two or three enclosures, not hoping for longer in one.

Between enclosures. Each tier is a separate enclosure in a different part of the park, with a rest in between. There is an on-site cafe and restaurant serving Thai and international dishes — the natural break if you are working through a Play package in the middle of the day. Vegetarian and no-pork dishes are easy to order from the Thai side of the menu; if your group wants a properly halal lunch or a full vegetarian Indian meal, tell your driver and he will route you to a restaurant in Chalong on the way back. The vehicle is yours for the whole trip, so it costs nothing but the time.

Photography. For the cub enclosures your own phone is genuinely fine — they are well lit and the animal is close. Sit on the floor and let the handler bring the cub down to your level; eye-to-eye with a curious five-month-old is the photograph this park exists for. The professional equipment earns its money in the Big, Giant and White Tiger enclosures, which are larger and darker. And remember the pricing: ฿500 covers up to five people in one enclosure, not ฿500 each.

Timing. 9:00 to 11:00 AM, every time. Cooler air, more active animals, directional light through the enclosure structures. After 11:30 the heat builds, the adults settle, and the overhead sun puts hard shadows across every shot. Weekday mornings are quieter than weekends, with shorter waits between enclosures.

Getting There — And Why We Insist on the Vehicle
