A car at disposal means you hire the whole vehicle and its driver for a fixed block of time — here, 8 hours — rather than paying per journey or per person. The vehicle stays with you for the entire period: it takes you somewhere, waits while you are there, and takes you on to the next place, as many times as you like. It is the difference between buying a taxi ride and buying a driver's day.

The term comes from the Indian travel trade and appears in most Thailand holiday packages sold from India. The catch is that packaged versions almost always restrict it — a kilometre cap (often 80 km), a fixed itinerary, and re-routing charges if you deviate. Our version has none of those limits anywhere on Koh Samui: ฿5,500 for a 10-seat van, 8 hours, unlimited stops, fuel included.

No, and this is deliberate. You choose your date, tell us how many of you there are and roughly what you would like to do, and send it to us on WhatsApp. We then check the plan against the hours and the route, confirm a van is free on your date, and reply — usually within minutes during Thai business hours. Payment is arranged only once your day is confirmed.

We do it this way because a car at disposal is the one product we sell where your plan decides whether we can actually deliver the day. A route might leave the Koh Samui island zone, twelve stops might not fit into eight hours, a group of six will not fit the SUV, or a licensed guide might be unavailable on that date. Taking your money first and discovering any of that afterwards means refunds and a ruined day. Checking first takes us a few minutes and means every confirmed booking is one we know we can run.

฿4,500 for an SUV carrying up to 4 passengers, or ฿5,500 for a 10-seat van, for 8 hours. That is a flat price for the whole vehicle, not a per-person fare — four people in the SUV pay ฿1,125 each, and in the van ten people pay ฿550 each for the entire day, eight pay ฿688 each and six pay ฿917 each. The price includes your driver and all fuel with no kilometre cap anywhere on the island.

For context, Samui's advertised full-day rate is ฿3,000 to ฿5,000, hourly hire is quoted at ฿500 to ฿800, and extra hours are commonly ฿500. We sit at the top of that band or above it, and there are two reasons: those quotes are usually for an older four-seat car, and our number already contains the villa roads, the outer zones, the whole ring road and unlimited stops with no cap. Our extra hours are ฿500 for the SUV or ฿600 for the van and are never refused. Samui is the most expensive island in Thailand for private transport, so compare the finished total rather than the advertised number.

The reasons are structural rather than opportunistic. The island is small with a limited vehicle fleet, much of the accommodation is villa-based and spread across steep hillsides that take more driver effort, demand concentrates into a short December-to-March high season, and there is no competing infrastructure — no rail, no metered-taxi culture, and songthaews on limited routes. Prices rise accordingly.

Our answer is to be plain about it rather than to advertise a low number and recover it later. We charge ฿4,500 for an SUV and ฿5,500 for a ten-seat van, at the top of the island's headline band for an older four-seat car or above it, and then nothing else: no villa-road surcharge, no outer-zone fee, no kilometre cap, no per-stop charge, and ฿500 or ฿600 extra hours that are never declined. That is not a lesser vehicle or a rushed driver — it is the same standard and the same inclusions we run in all five cities, on the island where they cost the most to deliver.

Yes, and we do not surcharge for it. Samui's hillside villas at Chaweng Noi, Choeng Mon, Bang Por and Taling Ngam are often reached by steep, narrow, roughly surfaced private roads, and it is genuinely common here for drivers to decline the last stretch and ask guests to walk down to the main road with their bags. We do not do that.

Please tell us at booking if your villa road is difficult, because we send a 10-seat Commuter van and on the very steepest few roads on the island one genuinely cannot make the last stretch. We would far rather check the road with you beforehand and agree a pickup point the van can reach — usually a hundred metres or so down — than have your driver discover it on the morning with your luggage already at the door. Most villa roads are fine, and we never charge extra for one.

Yes, comfortably. Route 4169, the ring road, runs about 51 kilometres in a complete loop around Samui, and almost everything worth seeing sits on it or a short spur off it. The longest drive between neighbouring highlights is roughly twenty minutes, so a full circuit with six or seven proper stops is a normal day rather than a rushed one.

A typical loop covers the Big Buddha at Wat Phra Yai, Wat Plai Laem, Hin Ta and Hin Yai at Lamai, Wat Khunaram's mummified monk, the Na Muang waterfalls inland, Fisherman's Village at Bophut and a west-coast sunset. Your driver will suggest clockwise or anticlockwise depending on the weather and what you want to finish with.

Very little, which is what makes this such good value on Samui. The Big Buddha at Wat Phra Yai, Wat Plai Laem, Hin Ta and Hin Yai, the Na Muang waterfalls, Wat Khunaram, Fisherman's Village and every beach on the island are all free to enter. For most guests the vehicle plus lunch is the entire cost of a full sightseeing day.

Optional paid stops such as the Secret Buddha Garden or a private viewpoint café are modest and entirely up to you, paid at the venue. Parking is ฿20–100 where it applies, though most temple and beach car parks are free. Lunch runs roughly ฿150–500 per person.

No to both. Anywhere on Koh Samui you can visit as many places as you like, in any order, and change your mind as often as you like. There is no kilometre counter, no fixed list of permitted stops and no re-routing fee — which matters on a 51-kilometre ring road where a change of direction can mean twenty extra kilometres.

We can price it this way honestly because a vehicle waiting in a car park costs us almost the same as a vehicle driving. The only things that genuinely change our cost are time and leaving the island, so those are the only two things we charge for: extra hours beyond eight, and a separate quote for airport or pier transfers.

The SUV is ฿4,500 and seats up to 4 passengers with day bags; the van is ฿5,500 and seats up to 10. Since the gap is only ฿1,000 for a whole day, the van is better value for any group of four or more, and it is the clear choice if you have grandparents, small children, or a beach day ahead — the space behind the back row takes wet towels, snorkels and shopping. Take the SUV if you are a couple or three to four adults travelling light.

One Samui-specific point decides it for some guests: hillside villas at Chaweng Noi, Choeng Mon, Bang Por and Taling Ngam are reached by steep, narrow private roads, and on the very worst of them a long-wheelbase van cannot make the last stretch while the SUV can. Tell us your road at booking and we will check it in advance rather than on the morning. Whichever you book is what arrives — we do not substitute a smaller vehicle on the day, which is the island's most common transport complaint.

The clock starts the moment your driver collects you at your hotel or villa door and ends when he drops you back. It does not start when he left the depot — a common trick that quietly eats thirty to sixty minutes of a day you paid for. A 09:00 pickup means a 17:00 drop-off.

Extra hours are ฿500 for the SUV and ฿600 for the van, charged in whole hours and agreed on the day. The Samui standard is ฿500 an hour but is routinely quoted 'subject to availability'; ours is unconditional, because the driver is assigned to you and not slotted between other bookings. The most common reason to extend here is a west-coast sunset followed by dinner at Fisherman's Village.

Your driver speaks working English — enough for directions, timings, restaurant recommendations and friendly conversation — and carries a phone with WhatsApp translation for anything more complex. He knows Samui properly, including which direction round the ring road is quieter at which hour and which villa roads need care.

He will not narrate the temples, because Thai law does not allow it: under the Tourism Business and Guide Act B.E. 2551, guiding tourists without a licence carries penalties of up to ฿500,000 or two years' imprisonment. Add a licensed English-speaking guide for ฿2,500 for the whole day if you want commentary — on Samui it pays off most at Wat Khunaram and the mummified monk.

Yes, and it costs nothing extra. Tell us at booking or tell your driver on the day, and he will take you to genuinely good halal-friendly, vegetarian, Jain-friendly, Indian or Western food rather than a restaurant that pays him commission. Fisherman's Village at Bophut and the Lamai seafront have the widest range on the island.

Lunch is not included in the price — budget roughly ฿150–500 per person. Your driver will also pause for prayer times whenever you ask and will wait as long as you need at any stop. There is no time pressure inside your eight hours.

Not on this product. Samui Airport transfers and connections to the Nathon, Lipa Noi or Big Buddha piers for ferries to Koh Phangan and Koh Tao are quoted separately by route, because they carry different timing risk — flight and ferry deadlines are hard, and folding them into a flexible disposal day makes for a stressful one.

Samui's December–March high season fills quickly and the island's vehicle fleet is genuinely limited, so 48–72 hours is safer then.
