Breathing underwater for the first time is one of those things you never forget — and you do not need a licence, a course, or any experience to try it. On a Pattaya try dive (PADI Discover Scuba) a professional instructor stays at your side the whole time: they teach you a few simple skills in shallow water, then guide you gently down onto the reef off Pattaya's clear near islands, to a relaxed maximum of about 12 metres, among coral, clownfish and shoals of reef fish.

We run it as a full-day boat trip with everything included — round-trip hotel transfers, the dive boat, all scuba equipment, your instructor, and lunch, coffee and water on board. Choose the Try Dive Splash (฿3,650) for one guided dive plus afternoon snorkelling, or Discover Scuba — 2 Dives (฿4,650) to dive twice, morning and afternoon, and really find your fins. Both visit two dive sites chosen for your comfort and the day's conditions.

The day is punctual: hotel pickup at 7:30 AM, a scenic ride out by road and boat, and back by mid-to-late afternoon. Because we fit your rental gear ahead of time, please book by 6 PM the day before and give your shirt and shoe size on the form. The thing that puts people off trying scuba is the fear that they need to be a swimmer, take a course, or be certified first. For a Discover Scuba try dive, none of that is true — a PADI professional is with you at every moment, you learn the two or three skills you actually need in shallow water, and you never go deeper than a gentle 12 metres. The most common worry we hear is 'what if I panic?' and the honest answer is that the instructor controls the whole dive, stays within arm's reach, and surfaces with you the instant you want to.

What we won't do is pretend it's for everyone. Diving has real medical rules: you should not dive with heart or serious respiratory conditions, uncontrolled asthma, ear or sinus problems, or while pregnant, and you'll complete a short medical questionnaire before you go. You also must not fly for 18–24 hours after diving, so don't book this for the morning of your flight home. Within those sensible limits, though, a Pattaya try dive is one of the most memorable things you can do on the Gulf — and if you love it, the dive counts toward a full Open Water certification.

Please note - Read Important (Click to expand)
  • NO LICENCE OR EXPERIENCE NEEDED — this is a guided PADI Discover Scuba 'try dive'. A professional instructor is with you the entire dive and controls the depth and pace.
  • MEDICAL: you should NOT dive if you have heart disease, serious or uncontrolled respiratory conditions or asthma, ear or sinus problems, epilepsy, or if you are pregnant. You'll complete a short medical questionnaire; some conditions require a doctor's clearance. If in doubt, ask us before booking.
  • DO NOT FLY for 18–24 hours after diving. Never book this for the same day or the morning of your departure flight.
  • MINIMUM AGE 10 for Discover Scuba (children aged 8–9 can try the shallow PADI Bubblemaker instead — ask us).
  • PUNCTUAL DEPARTURE: pickup is from 7:30 AM and the boat leaves on time. Be ready in your hotel lobby at your confirmed time.
  • BOOK BY 6 PM THE DAY BEFORE. Because rental gear is fitted in advance, the booking form asks for your shirt and shoe size — please answer accurately. If you already hold a diving licence, give your PADI (or other agency) number.
  • This is a shared join-in dive trip run by a PADI dive centre; every boat carries first aid and emergency oxygen and all instructors are CPR-trained. Bookings are non-refundable for a missed trip once confirmed (see cancellation policy).

What to Bring — Don't Forget These

  • Swimwear worn under your clothes, and a towel and change of clothes
  • Reef-safe sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses for the boat
  • Any personal medication, and your doctor's clearance note if a medical condition requires one
  • Your PADI / dive certification card and number, if you already hold one
  • A little cash in Thai Baht — for drinks on the boat and the ฿200 marine-park fee if Samaesan is the site

Cancellation Policy

  • Full refund — cancel more than 7 days before your trip (Thailand time, GMT+7).
  • 50% refund — cancel between 7 days and 48 hours before your trip.
  • No refund — cancellations within 48 hours of the trip, or no-shows. The dive centre operates a strict no-refund rule for a missed trip once booked.
  • Cancellations count from the moment your written message reaches us on WhatsApp (+66 89 949 6235) or email. Full terms: https://www.tripthaitour.com/cancellation-policy
  • If the dive centre cancels for reasons beyond their control (bad weather, rough sea, boat issue), there is no charge — you choose a full refund or a free new date.
  • Hotel Pickup — 7:30 AM (be ready, the boat doesn't wait)

    • Round-trip transfer from your Pattaya hotel to the dive centre and boat, arranged by the dive centre.
    • Exact pickup time depends on your hotel and is confirmed on WhatsApp the night before.
    • Book by 6 PM the day before; give your shirt and shoe size so gear is fitted in advance.

Boat to the Near Islands & Dive Briefing

    • A 1–2 hour ride by road and boat to Pattaya's near islands (typically Koh Sak, Koh Krok or Koh Rin).
    • Your PADI instructor briefs you on the simple skills and hand signals — no jargon, no exam.

    Skills & Your Guided Dive(s) — max ~12 m

    • Practise breathing and mask-clearing in shallow water, then your instructor guides you onto the reef.
    • Coral, clownfish, parrotfish and more; the instructor controls depth and pace, staying beside you.
    • Two-dive guests dive again in the afternoon at a second site.

    Lunch, Snorkel or 2nd Dive

    • Lunch, coffee and water on board during the surface interval.
    • Try Dive Splash: afternoon snorkelling. Discover Scuba 2 Dives: a second guided dive.

Return — Back by ~3–5 PM

    • Boat back to Pattaya and hotel drop-off by mid-to-late afternoon (depends on the dive site).
    • Remember: do not fly for 18–24 hours after diving.

We offer pick-up to the following places for this experience:

    • Round-trip Pattaya hotel transfer is included and arranged by the dive centre, with pickup from around 7:30 AM depending on where your hotel is — we confirm the exact time on WhatsApp the night before. Please be ready in your hotel lobby at your confirmed time: the boat departs on schedule. Bookings must be made by 6 PM the day before so your rental gear can be fitted in advance — that's why the booking form asks for your shirt and shoe size (and your PADI number if you already hold a diving licence). If your hotel is well outside central Pattaya, tell us at booking and we'll confirm the pickup.

⚠️ Read Before You Book — Can You Dive?

A try dive needs no licence or experience, but diving does have real safety rules. Please check these before booking so no one is turned away on the day:

    • Medical: you should not dive with heart disease, serious or uncontrolled asthma/respiratory conditions, ear or sinus problems, epilepsy, or if you are pregnant. A short medical form is completed before the dive; some conditions need a doctor's clearance.
    • No flying for 18–24 hours after diving — never book this for the same day or the morning of your flight home.
    • Minimum age 10 (ages 8–9 can try the shallow PADI Bubblemaker — ask us).
    • Book by 6 PM the day before, and give your shirt & shoe size on the form so your gear is fitted in advance.

Can't dive, or prefer to stay on the surface? Our Pattaya snorkeling tour or Coral Island day trip lets you enjoy the same reefs without going under — just ask and we'll steer you honestly.

    What Actually Happens

    1

The Early Start & the Ride Out — 7:30 AM

A dive day starts early, and being ready matters. Pickup is from 7:30 AM, with the exact time set by where your hotel is; we confirm it on WhatsApp the night before, and the honest rule we tell everyone is to be down in your lobby on time, because the boat leaves on schedule and a whole group is waiting. From your hotel you transfer to the dive centre and boat, and then it's a scenic 1 to 2 hour journey out by road and boat to Pattaya's near islands — the ride is part of the fun, with the coastline falling away behind you and the islands rising ahead. This is also when the day stops being intimidating: your PADI instructor sits down with you and walks through what will actually happen, in plain language, with none of the jargon. They explain the handful of simple skills you'll use, how the equipment works, and the hand signals you'll use underwater. By the time you reach the dive site you already know the plan, which is exactly why a guided try dive feels so different from imagining it from dry land. There is no exam, no swim test, and no pressure — just a professional getting you comfortable and excited for what is, for most guests, a first-ever breath underwater. Bring reef-safe sunscreen and a hat for the boat, and let the instructor know if you're nervous; making first-timers relaxed is literally their job.

    2

Your First Breaths Underwater — The Skills & The Dive

The moment everyone remembers is the first breath. Before that, in shallow, calm water where you can stand, your instructor helps you fit your gear and teaches the only skills you truly need for a try dive: breathing slowly and steadily through the regulator, clearing water from your mask, and finding the regulator if it slips. These take just a few minutes, and the instructor stays within arm's reach throughout. Then, when you're ready — and only when you're ready — they guide you gently below the surface. Discover Scuba dives are deliberately shallow, to a maximum of about 12 metres, and your instructor holds the depth and pace the entire time, so you never have to think about it. What you do get to think about is the reef: sunlight rippling down through clear water, hard and soft corals, and fish everywhere — orange-and-white clownfish darting into their anemones, striped sergeant-majors, angelfish and parrotfish, and if you're lucky a barracuda hanging in the blue. It is quiet down there in a way nothing on the surface is, just the sound of your own breathing, and most people surface grinning and immediately asking to go again. If at any point you want to come up, you signal and the instructor surfaces with you at once — you are in control. No certification is needed for any of this, and the whole experience can count toward a full PADI Open Water course if you decide to carry on.

    3

The Reef at Pattaya's Near Islands — Where You Dive

Pattaya's diving happens at a cluster of small islands a short boat ride offshore, and for try dives the boat heads to the calm, shallow 'near islands' — usually Koh Sak, Koh Krok or Koh Rin — chosen because their reefs are sheltered, easy to dive, and rich with life. The exact two sites for the day are picked by the crew based on the wind, the current and your comfort level, which is why we can't promise a specific island in advance, but they are all genuinely good beginner reefs. Expect hard coral bommies and boulders draped in soft corals and sea fans, with visibility usually somewhere between 5 and 12 metres depending on the season and the tide. The marine life is the draw: shoals of tropical reef fish, clownfish in their anemones, wrasse and parrotfish grazing the coral, moray eels tucked into crevices, sea urchins and the occasional stingray resting on the sand. It is not the untouched wilderness of the far-southern reefs, but for water this close to a major resort city it is a lovely, lively introduction to the underwater world — and because it's shallow and calm, you actually get to slow down and look, rather than fighting current or worrying about depth. Trips that go instead to the farther Samaesan islands carry a small ฿200 national-marine-park fee, which we'll always flag before the day.

    4

Lunch, the Surface Interval & Your Second Dive or Snorkel

Diving is hungry work, and lunch is served on the boat during the surface interval — a Thai meal with coffee and water included, eaten with the islands around you while your body offgasses between activities (a rest the instructor builds in for safety, not just comfort). What happens next depends on your package, and this is the main difference between the two. If you booked Discover Scuba — 2 Dives (฿4,650), the afternoon brings a second guided dive, usually at a different site, and this is where the magic really happens: with the nerves of the first dive behind you, the second dive is almost always the one people love most, because you're relaxed, your breathing has settled, and you can properly take the reef in. If you booked the Try Dive Splash (฿3,650), your afternoon is snorkelling — floating over the same reefs with a mask and fins, still seeing plenty of coral and fish from the surface, a gentler way to round out the day. Either way there's time to dry off, warm up and swap stories on the boat. Soft drinks and beer are available on board (paid to the captain); everything else — the diving, the gear, the lunch, the water and coffee — is already in your price, so there are no surprises when you get back.

    5

Safety, Who Can Dive & Getting Home

We're honest about who this is and isn't for, because diving safely matters more than a sale. A try dive is wonderfully accessible — no licence, no experience, minimum age 10 — but it has real medical limits. You should not dive if you have heart disease, serious or uncontrolled respiratory conditions or asthma, ear or sinus trouble, epilepsy, or if you are pregnant; you'll fill in a short medical questionnaire before you go, and some conditions need a doctor's clearance first. If anything on that list applies to you, tell us before booking and we'll advise honestly — sometimes the answer is our snorkelling tour instead. Two more rules everyone must follow: don't drink alcohol before diving, and do not fly for 18 to 24 hours after diving, so never book a dive for the same day or the morning of your flight home. The reassuring side: the dives are run by a professional PADI dive centre, every boat carries first aid and emergency oxygen, and all instructors are CPR-trained. From around 3:00 to 5:00 PM, depending on the dive site, the boat brings you back and you're transferred to your hotel — tired, salty and usually already planning your next dive. Tell us your package, your shirt and shoe size and any medical notes when you book, and we'll have it all confirmed in writing before the day.

    Is This Right for You?

    First-time divers & the curious

This is built for you — no licence, no course, no experience. A PADI instructor teaches you the few skills you need and guides you the whole dive to a gentle 12 m. If you've ever wondered what breathing underwater is like, this is the safest, easiest way to find out.

    Adventure & bucket-list travellers

Diving a coral reef is a genuine bucket-list moment, and Pattaya's near islands make it achievable on a single day trip. Choose the two-dive package if you want to properly get into it — the second dive is almost always the best.

    Couples & friends

A brilliant shared adventure — learn together, dive the reef together, and come up with the same grin. Everyone dives with the instructor, so mixed-confidence groups are no problem; nervous first-timers and keen ones both do fine.

    Worldwide independent travellers

A punctual, professionally run day for European, Russian and worldwide visitors who want a real reef dive without a hard sell. All gear, transfers and lunch are included, and the schedule is efficient — you're back by mid-afternoon.

    Not right for you if…

…you have a heart, respiratory, ear or blood-pressure condition, you're pregnant, or you're flying within 18–24 hours. In those cases diving isn't safe — our snorkelling or Coral Island tour lets you enjoy the reef from the surface instead. Ask us and we'll steer you honestly.

    What Our Guests Say

"Neither of us had ever dived and we were nervous, but the instructor was calm and stayed right next to us the whole time. Seeing the clownfish for the first time underwater — unforgettable. We did the two-dive package and the second dive was even better once the nerves were gone. Everything was included and Trip Thai Tour confirmed our gear sizes and pickup on WhatsApp."

"A properly run day. On-time pickup, professional PADI instructor, all the gear provided and fitted, and a genuinely lovely reef at the near islands. Max 12 metres so it never felt scary. Lunch on the boat was good too. Booked cheaper than the walk-in dive shops and it counts toward my Open Water course, which I'm now doing."

    Thomas BergerVienna, AustriaSolo

"Our first try dive and we loved it. The instructor taught us the skills slowly in shallow water so we felt safe before going down. Clear water, lots of fish, and the crew were careful about safety with oxygen on the boat. Back in Pattaya by late afternoon. Would recommend to anyone curious about diving."

"Four of us tried diving for the first time. Honestly thought I'd panic but the instructor had total control and I felt safe the whole time. The Splash package was perfect — one dive then snorkelling in the afternoon. Great value with everything included, and they were upfront about the no-fly-after-diving rule which we didn't know."

    Frequently
    Asked
    Questions

No — this is a PADI Discover Scuba 'try dive', designed for complete beginners with no licence and no experience. A professional PADI instructor teaches you the few skills you need in shallow water, then guides you the whole dive, controlling the depth and pace. Most of our guests have never dived before.

If you decide you love it, the try dive can count toward a full PADI Open Water certification course later. And if you already hold a diving licence, tell us your certification number when you book and you can join as a certified diver.

We sell two packages per person: the Try Dive Splash (1 guided dive + afternoon snorkelling) at ฿3,650, and Discover Scuba — 2 Dives (two guided dives, morning and afternoon) at ฿4,650. Both include round-trip hotel transfers, the dive boat, ALL scuba equipment, your PADI instructor, and lunch, coffee and water on board.

The only extras are soft drinks and beer on the boat (paid to the captain) and, if the day's dives are at the Samaesan islands, a ฿200 national marine-park fee. Everything else is in the price — no hidden charges.

If you just want to try diving once and still enjoy the reef, the ฿3,650 Try Dive Splash is ideal — one guided dive in the morning, then snorkelling in the afternoon. If you think you'll love it, the ฿4,650 two-dive package is better value and a better experience, because the second dive (at a different site) is almost always the one people enjoy most, once the first-dive nerves are gone.

Both are the same relaxed, instructor-led try dive with no licence needed — the two-dive option simply gives you more time underwater.

Discover Scuba try dives are deliberately shallow, to a maximum of about 12 metres, and your instructor holds the depth and pace for you the entire time, staying within arm's reach. If you ever want to come up, you signal and the instructor surfaces with you immediately — you are always in control.

The dives are run by a professional PADI dive centre; every boat carries first aid and emergency oxygen, and all instructors are CPR-trained. It is one of the safest possible ways to experience diving for the first time.

Try dives go to Pattaya's clear 'near islands' — typically Koh Sak, Koh Krok or Koh Rin — a short boat ride offshore, chosen because their reefs are shallow, sheltered and full of coral and fish. The exact two sites for the day are picked by the crew based on wind, current and your comfort, so we can't promise a specific island in advance.

Expect hard and soft coral, clownfish, parrotfish, wrasse, moray eels and shoals of reef fish, with visibility usually 5–12 metres depending on the season. Farther Samaesan-island trips carry a ฿200 marine-park fee, which we always flag first.

You don't need to be a strong swimmer for a Discover Scuba try dive, but you do need to be comfortable in the water — you'll be wearing a buoyancy vest and the instructor is beside you the whole time. If you are very anxious in water or cannot swim at all, tell us honestly when you book and we'll advise whether the try dive or our snorkelling tour suits you better.

The skills you practise in shallow water first are simple and the instructor never rushes you. Many nervous first-timers surface wishing they'd tried it years ago.

Yes. You should NOT dive if you have heart disease, serious or uncontrolled respiratory conditions or asthma, ear or sinus problems, epilepsy, or if you are pregnant. You'll complete a short medical questionnaire before the dive, and some conditions require a doctor's clearance. If anything applies to you, tell us before booking and we'll advise honestly.

The minimum age for Discover Scuba is 10. Children aged 8–9 can try the shallow PADI Bubblemaker instead — ask us. There is no fixed maximum age, but you must be in reasonable health.

No — you must not fly for 18 to 24 hours after scuba diving, because of the risk of decompression sickness as cabin pressure drops. This is a firm safety rule, not a guideline.

So never book a dive for the same day or the morning of your departure flight. Plan your dive day for earlier in your trip, with at least a full day between diving and flying.

Because your rental gear — the wetsuit, fins and boots — is fitted in advance so it's ready and comfortable on the day, rather than everyone scrambling for sizes on the boat. Your shirt size guides the wetsuit and your shoe size guides the fins and boots.

It only takes a second on the booking form and it makes your dive far more comfortable. If you already hold a diving licence, please also give your PADI (or other agency) certification number.

Hotel pickup is from 7:30 AM (the exact time depends on your hotel and is confirmed on WhatsApp the night before), followed by a 1–2 hour ride by road and boat to the dive site. You dive, have lunch on the boat, and are back at your hotel by roughly 3:00 to 5:00 PM depending on the site.

Please be ready in your lobby at your confirmed time — the boat departs on schedule and does not wait. And remember the no-fly rule afterwards.

Wear your swimwear under your clothes and bring a towel, a change of clothes, reef-safe sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses. All scuba equipment is provided and fitted for you, so you don't need any gear.

Bring any personal medication (and a doctor's clearance note if a medical condition requires one), your dive certification card if you hold one, and a little cash for drinks on the boat and the ฿200 marine-park fee if Samaesan is the site.

Book on WhatsApp (+66 89 949 6235) or through this page. Bookings must be made by 6 PM the day before the trip so your rental gear can be fitted in advance — we ask for your shirt and shoe size on the form for exactly this reason.

We confirm your package, pickup time, gear sizes and any medical notes in writing before the day. The trip is run by a licensed PADI dive centre, and Trip Thai Tour is TAT Licensed No. 14/04232.

Cancel more than 7 days before the trip for a full refund; between 7 days and 48 hours for a 50% refund; within 48 hours or no-show, no refund — the dive centre operates a strict no-refund rule for a missed trip once booked. Cancellations count from when your written message reaches us. Full terms: tripthaitour.com/cancellation-policy.

If the dive centre has to cancel for reasons beyond their control — bad weather, rough sea, a boat problem — there is no charge and you choose a full refund or a free new date. We never dive in unsafe conditions.
